Image Compressor

Re-encode a photo locally, compare its actual file size, and download a fresh JPEG, PNG, or WebP. Your image stays in your browser.

Runs locally in your browser · no uploads or account

Or drop a file here / paste an image. JPEG, PNG, WebP · 50 MiB, 20 MP, 8192 px per edge.

Lower quality usually saves space but loses detail. PNG keeps full detail and ignores this control.

JPEG fills transparent pixels with this color. PNG and WebP retain transparency. WebP export depends on your browser.

Quality affects JPEG and WebP. PNG ignores the slider; re-encoding a PNG can make it larger. The oriented dimensions stay the same.

WAITING FOR OUTPUT

Background processing when supported.

The preview fits this panel. Actual output details appear after encoding. Changing a setting discards the previous output.

LESS TO CARRY

Keep the frame.

Compare real files.

Choose an image, set the output format and quality, then compress. The result shows both file sizes in bytes, the percentage change, and the oriented dimensions. If the new file is larger, the tool says so. Try lower JPEG or WebP quality, or use the image resizer first when the destination needs fewer pixels.

Compression depends on the picture.

JPEG suits photographs and fills transparent pixels with your chosen background color. WebP retains transparency when your browser can export it. PNG is lossless for the decoded pixels and ignores the quality slider; this tool re-encodes PNG rather than optimizing its palette or searching compression settings. Smaller output is never guaranteed. Your original file remains untouched.

A fresh export has limits.

The browser applies image orientation and renders to an sRGB canvas. Original EXIF, GPS, text, color-profile, and animation data are not copied. Animated inputs become one browser-selected still frame, and the encoder may add its own technical metadata. This is not a calibrated color workflow.

JPEG, PNG, and WebP input only. Maximum 50 MiB, 20 MP, 8192 px per edge. Headers are checked within the first 1 MiB, then decoded dimensions are validated. Unusual or damaged files may need a standard re-export. Without worker image support, source and output are limited to 4 MP. Clear, cancel, replace the file, or leave the page to release local work and previews.
